Methane Masterclass: E-learning Now Available

Since natural gas consists mainly of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, its part in the transition to a low-carbon future will be influenced by the extent to which the oil and gas supply chain reduces its methane emissions. Governments are legislating, investors and buyers are asking questions, and there is an increasing demand for action.

For those new to the topic, or perhaps finding themselves with responsibilities in addressing this challenge, it can be confusing to know where to begin.

Delivered by independent experts in methane management from the Sustainable Gas Institute, Imperial College London, the Methane Masterclass is designed to improve awareness and know-how on managing methane emissions. Launched in 2019, it has run successfully as a face-to-face or virtual course. The Methane Masterclass targets managers, specifically those making decisions with respect to planning, mitigating, measuring and reporting methane emissions.

Methane Guiding Principles is pleased to announce that this course is now available via e-learning. With around two hours of self-paced online learning via bite-sized pre-recorded video content, e-learning allows practitioners to pick up the training when it suits them. The course sets out the business case for reducing methane emissions and presents MGP Reducing Methane Emissions Best Practices alongside real-world case studies.

Participants get to explore technologies and learn how to evaluate methane detection, measurement and reduction options. Quizzes are included to consolidate learning as well as reading lists and relevant resources.

For anyone interested in providing this e-learning across an organization, please contact Dr. Adam Hawkes, Director, Sustainable Gas Institute, at a.hawkes@imperial.ac.uk. There are options to tailor the course to your organization, such as building in instructor-led training or student assignments.  Organizations can choose to host the course on their own Learning Management System.

If you are an individual wanting to undertake the training, you can book access via the Energy Institute by clicking here. You will get an Energy Institute certificate upon completion of the course.
