The Methane Guiding Principles (MGP) is pleased to announce the release of updated versions of our popular Best Practice Guides. The guides are designed to support oil and gas operators in making improvements in methane emission management across the natural gas supply chain.
Capturing a wealth of knowledge and insights from MGP members and global sustainability consultancy SLR, the Best Practice Guides provide a summary of current known mitigations and available technologies. The methods for identification, reduction, and quantification are rapidly evolving, therefore these updates are crucial for addressing the current steps in methane reduction. The material has been refreshed for:
- Flaring
- Equipment leaks
- Venting
- Pneumatic devices
- Operational repairs
- Identification, detection, measurement and quantification
- Transmission, storage, LNG terminals and distribution
“Methane detection and quantification is a focus in the oil and gas industry. The breakthroughs in technology over the last 20-years have made huge step changes and the technology is continually improving. Ensuring everyone is using the most up-to-date information will help us get our goals quicker.” – Chris Rathbun, MGP, Program Manager
The MGP partnership, introduced in 2017, enables action in industry and government. Our members build on the foundation of the five Methane Guiding Principles and develop practical tools and guidance to drive efforts in priority areas. The Guides should benefit managers of operations globally in making informed and consistent emissions-related decisions.
