Methane Guiding Principles in attendance at the Methane Mitigation Global Summit

Methane Guiding Principles were pleased to attend the Methane Mitigation Summit in Austin Texas in June this year. The annual event gathered around 350 oil and gas operators, regulators, NGOs, academics and technology providers to discuss the latest advancements in monitoring, measuring and mitigating oil and gas methane emissions.

MGP Program Manager Chris Rathbun participated in a panel discussion around methane emissions reductions in NOJVs, alongside representatives from MGP member organizations Chevron and Environmental Defense Fund.

Chris was also joined by Petrobras for a discussion about constructing a methane migration program for offshore assets, considering the benefits of technology for the accuracy of measurement and ensuring sustained performance.

Improvements in detection and measurement techniques and creating transparency were high on the agenda, with a focus on technology advancements and adoption of tools such as drones, aircraft and satellites.

The rise in investment in methane mitigation was another illuminating discussion, featuring MGP supporting organization Climate Investment (CI).

Discussions throughout the summit reinforced the importance of ongoing collaboration and knowledge sharing through platforms like MGP and industry events.

We are looking forward to attending the summit alongside MGP members and supporting organizations in 2025.
